Totally called this one…

Tyra Banks re-signed with her mega agency, IMG which will allegedly bring her out of her self-imposed retirement!

Surely I wasn’t the only one who noticed how slowly but surely Ty Ty was getting back into her model shape nearing the end of her talk show reign!

LOVES it!!

Welcome home, Tyra!

Healthy Dose of Irony

Posted in Pop Culture on May 19, 2010 by miaamber

“Healthy,” a  UK-based magazine which focuses on women’s health thought it would be a good idea to alter a photo of their cover model, Kamilla Wladyka  in an effort to add weight to her thin frame.

Here’s what Editor Jane Druker had to say:

“Sometimes when you cast a model, they look OK, but then when they turn up on the shoot day, they might not have eaten for two or three days. You’re not in charge of their health. When she did arrive, there were plenty of clothes that we couldn’t put on her because her bones stuck out too much. She looked beautiful in the face, but really thin and unwell…”

Instead of re-booking a size 10 model which is what they made Kamilla into through the magic of graphic retouching, they went ahead and used her even though she was clearly not well.

It seems as if  in the fashion industry two steps forward sometimes means one giant step back!

Skin is In

Plus Super Model Ashley Graham appears in the latest issue of “O” Magazine in an article that has absolutely nothing to do with her size…

It’s all about skin care!

Can I tell you how much I LOVE that?  I hope other publications follow suit and begin integrating models of size into  articles about lifestyle.

Plus Model Mia Amber & Fashion to Figure

Posted in Mia in Motion on May 19, 2010 by miaamber

This past weekend I had the pleasure of being on hand as plus retailer Fashion to Figure celebrated the opening of their newest NY area store located in the Kings Plaza Mall in Brooklyn, NY.

The mall was abuzz with a fantastic fashion show where I shared the runway with fellow  plus models Tricia Campbell and Christina Mendez who modeled fashions for Ashley Stewart and Macy’s respectively:

I definitely need to stop by Ashley Stewart and pick up Tricia’s entire ensemble!

Here is the other look I modeled for FTF:

My entire look (minus the shoes which were sponsored by Aerosoles) only costs about $40!

The store is beautiful with the latest hits playing on the sound system and an absolutely fantastic staff.

If you’re in the NYC area and need a hot look, seek out a Fashion to Figure or visit them on-line!

Thin = Happy for Former Plus Model

Posted in Curvy News, Get Fit Not Thin on May 19, 2010 by miaamber

Former size 16/18 Plus Model Victoria Holman has seemingly found happiness now that she has lost the weight that made her a household name in the UK.

Victoria, then…

Here’s what she had to say to Plus Size Tall:

“Being a model sounds fantastic until you appreciate the reality of it. I was surrounded all day by beautiful, willowy young women. They got to wear gorgeous, sexy clothes. My outfits may have been expensive, but they were dowdy and usually designed for much older women.”

Victoria, now…

A stay at fat camp helped Victoria get to her current weight of about 140 lbs. and she couldn’t be happier.

I wish we lived in a world where everyone had self-confidence and happiness at any size but  hey–no judgements! If she’s happy, then I’m happy for her.

Crystal & Chanel

Posted in Curvy News, Pop Culture on May 19, 2010 by miaamber

The amazing plus size supermodel Crystal Renn has once again broken new ground as the first ever plus size woman to walk for the house of Chanel during the iconic brands 2010 Resort show.

Like many, I never thought this would be possible due to head designer Karl Lagerfeld’s ridiculous remarks about plus size women late last year.

So what do you think– are the traditionally exclusive “thin” winds of fashion changing? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Former Plus Model Turns Author

Posted in Beauty, Curvy News on May 13, 2010 by miaamber

Former Plus Model Stella Ellis has penned a new book about her life in the modeling industry:

Stylelist caught up with her and she had this to say:

StyleList: Why do you prefer the term ‘size sexy’ instead of ‘plus size’?
Ellis: I hate ‘
plus size.’ Plus what size? The new name is ‘size sexy,’ which is what I’m titling our voluptuous girls of today. Enough of being called all kinds of funky names. We are sexy and feminine… It’s time for all women of all sizes to stop it and embrace yourself.

StyleList: Did you ever feel insecure about walking the catwalk next to supermodels like Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista?
Ellis: Most full-figured women project insecurities and they’re a little scared, but I was projecting 100% fabulous, self secured, sexy, bubbly. Yeah I’m big, but you know, here I am! It was in Paris and the excitement started with the fittings and everything Jean Paul [Gaultier] made for me was just to compliment and to show my body.

I’m embarrassed to say but I’ve never heard of Ellis so I need to do my homework! Here are a few photos of the Stunner:

Definitely going on my summer reading list!
