Plus Models Protest Down Under

After ripping the runway during Australian Fashion Week in 2009, plus models were shut out of the shows this year and they refused to take the snub lying down!

NEGOTIATING curves has proved too hazardous for the designers of Rosemount Australian Fashion Week, as plus-sized models claim they have been shut out by the local industry.

 

“The public wants to see themselves, in all shapes and sizes, not just size 6,” Ms Donnelly said. was hailed a success but has not one was invited to participate this year.IMG owner RAFW Donnelly said the industry had gone backwards after showcasing 18 plus-size models at Australian Fashion Week last year. IMG Asia Pacific fashion general manager Dan Hill declined to make official comment, referring any inquiries to designers.

A group of plus-size models wearing T-Shirts with slogans such as “I love my curves” and “We love real women” staged a protest outside an Australian Fashion Week event yesterday.

Alex Perry was defiant about his right to choose. “Nobody is going to tell me how to pick models,” he said.

What baffles me is that the plus models were such showstoppers last year and so many were looking forward to seeing them in action once again.  Why the step backwards?
