“Too Heavy” for Idol Audience

Posted in News on April 12, 2011 by miaamber

If true, this is disappointing…

A 19-year-old fan of the hit show, “American Idol” says she was removed from her choice seat in the front row because she was “too heavy.”

‘She had been given free tickets to attend the filming of American Idol and was understandably excited.

But 19-year-old Ashley Kauffman’s joy soon turned to upset on being told she was ‘too big’ to sit in the front row.

‘There were two ladies and one said: “Oh, I don’t want shorts in front,” about my friend,’ Miss Kauffman, of Riverside, California, told MailOnline.

‘Then she looked at me and said: “Oh no, you’re too big, too heavy to be in front!”‘

There’s  MORE on this story but none of it makes sense.  As a former Audience Coordinator I’ve had to remove my share of people from camera seating many times for a variety of reasons but rule #1 is NEVER tell the individual why they’re being moved ESPECIALLY if it’s because of esthetics.  Regardless — you don’t remove a teenage fan or anyone because of their size.

TMZ is exclusively reporting that the folks at American Idol are denying Ashley’s claim over size discrimination… you can read their explanation HERE!

Mia Amber & The Fabulous Kimora Lee Simonns

Posted in Curvy News, Entertainment, Mia in Motion, News on January 9, 2011 by miaamber

The time is FINALLY here to share some big news with you!  As I write this post, I am still in shock over the blessings that have recently come my way.

Back in the fall of 2010, I submitted online for a contest where the winner would receive an opportunity to be one of the new faces of  Queen of Fabulosity, Kimora Lee Simmons’ new skin care line, “KLS Gold!”

Photographer Tony Armstrong, Make Up by Tara Taylor

You all know how much I respect and admire KLS so I followed the directions, submitted and forgot about it.  A couple of weeks later I received an email inviting me to Los Angeles to attend a final casting call.

After a very long but exciting day, (where I literally hit the ground running from NY to L.A. straight into the casting with 30 minutes left to spare) I was shocked to learn that I made the cut!

My experience was documented for season four of, “Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane” which premiere’s January 9th on the Style Network.

I have NO idea what the final outcome will be but the experience was life changing. The opportunity to work with one of my sheroes, just for a day, was invaluable.  Watching Kimora work the camera was like being a very fashionable fly on the wall of a living master class which I did my best to absorb every second of.

As soon as I have an air date I’ll let you know.

Click HERE if you’d like to see the trailer for the great season of “Kimora: LITFL” that lies ahead or watch the clip below:

Thanks again for your support as I ride out these dreams of mine!

Special shout out to Mignon & Elaine for being there for me in a pinch, never any questions asked. I love you guys!

Plus Model Indicted for Illegal Medical Practices

Posted in News on November 24, 2010 by miaamber

Plus model Anivia Cruz-Dilworth has been indicted on charges that she illegally injected individuals with gels in an effort to enhance their buttocks and make them larger.

Here’s how it’s being reported:

“Anivia Cruz-Dilworth, scheduled to appear in Superior Court, Newark Dec. 9, is accused of coming to the homes of victims and injecting them with what she called hydro-gel, charging them between $660 and $1,000.

“Her actions caused a lot of harm,” Peter Sepulveda, assistant Essex County prosceutor, said in a statement. “Many of these women had to undergo surgery following these illegal procedures…One victim underwent five hospitalizations and several surgeries after receiving the injections…”

To say I am shocked is an understatement.  I have worked with Anivia and seen her many times at castings.  She seems like a really nice person.   This is a mess.

“Should Fatties Get a Room…” or Just Cancel Their Subscriptions?

Posted in Entertainment, News on October 27, 2010 by miaamber

Marie Claire writer Maura Kelly put a very fat foot in her mouth with an article she wrote based on the romance of TV characters Mike & Molly called, “Should Fatties Get a Room?”

Here’s an excerpt:
“I think I’d be grossed out if I had to watch two characters with rolls and rolls of fat kissing each other … because I’d be grossed out if I had to watch them doing anything. To be brutally honest, even in real life, I find it aesthetically displeasing to watch a very, very fat person simply walk across a room – just like I’d find it distressing if I saw a very drunk person stumbling across a bar or a heroine [sic] addict slumping in a chair.”

Click HERE to read the rest of this disturbing piece.

I’m not sure if I’m more upset with Maura for her closed-minded beauty ideals and societal views or if I’m more disappointed with Marie Claire for condoning her behavior.

If I had a subscription to the magazine I would seriously have to reconsider it at this point.  Luckily I don’t have to make that decision.

What do you think?

After 13 years one of Victoria’s Secret’s original Supermodels, Heidi Klum has decided to hang up her wings and be an Angel no more.
